Brides spend a great deal of time picking out the perfect dress, hairstyle and makeup for the big day. The right jewelry is a good way to accentuate and complement these choices. Strapless gowns are the most forgiving when it comes to selecting a necklace, as they allow for many more options than other necklines.

1 Grab Glam by the Throat

Strapless dresses leave a large area to work with between your neck and the dress, allowing for a wide range of necklace styles, including chokers, princess chokers, multistrand necklaces, fans, Y-drop pendants and chunky statement pieces. The trick is to choose a necklace that complements the dress rather than competes with it. Avoid a large, chunky crystal necklace if there is a lot of crystal bead work on your dress but wear it if the top of your gown is plain and understated. For the most flattering look, choose a necklace that lies across your collarbone. Leave at least 1 inch of space between the bottom of your necklace and the top of your gown. If the neckline of the dress is intricate, skip the necklace altogether and draw the eyes upward with a pair of dangling earrings instead. For a touch of color, choose something meaningful, such as your birthstone or opt for something that matches one of your wedding colors or the flowers in your bouquet.
