It doesn't matter if they're a combat, ankle, cowboy, work or knee-high style -- tan boots are the kind of footwear that can take you anywhere. Their neutral color allows you to pair them with a rainbow of shades, but they have a softer look than the usual neutral black boots, making them easy to wear and seriously versatile. Rock them to class, work or out with friends -- soon you'll discover your black pair is collecting dust.

1 Low-Key and Relaxed

For girls, tan boots are an ideal alternative to loafers or ballet flats when you’re going for a casual look. Try a pair of flat knee-high boots with your favorite leggings and camel-colored V-neck boyfriend sweater. If you like, add a belt that matches the boots to cinch your waist and a few gold bangle bracelets to tie the outfit together. Or slip on a pair of tan heeled ankle booties with a white tee, dark-wash bootcut jeans and a beige suede jacket. Guys can wear tan pull-on ankle boots with a simple white T-shirt and jeans and layer a dark brown leather jacket over the tee when the weather cools off.

2 Polished and Professional

If you want to wear your tan boots to work, an interview or a school presentation, use them as part of a polished look. Pair knee-high heeled boots with a cranberry sheath or sweater dress and a chunky gold chain necklace. Or tuck a white button-down blouse into a camel pencil skirt with your tall tan boots. Add pearl studs and a simple gold bangle to keep the vibe understated and professional. If you’re rocking tan ankle booties, try them with a navy cardigan, ivory camisole and camel cuffed trousers. Gold hoops or pendant necklace make ideal accessories.

3 Sporty and Rugged

Girls can use tan boots as a part of a sporty equestrian look. Wear knee-high flat boots over a pair of dark skinny jeans or leggings. Add a white tee or button-down blouse and a tailored blazer -- a tweed or houndstooth style in brown, green or navy offer the most classic equestrian finish. Keep jewelry to a minimum with simple diamond or pearl studs. If the weather’s cold, layer a burgundy or gold scarf around your neck for a little extra warmth. Guys can pair tan lace-up sports boots with a khaki canvas jacket, olive green tee and medium-wash jeans for a rugged, sporty look.

4 Sexy Night Out

Tan boots can even work well for a night out with the girls. Pair knee-high heeled tan boots with a black satin corset top and dark-wash skinny jeans. If it’s a cool night, layer a black blazer over the top. Take the look up a notch with a pair of crystal chandelier earrings or a bib style necklace with colorful stones. Or go with a pair of tan peep-toe booties and wear them with an animal-print dress. Add a gold spike earrings and a matching cuff bracelet for a sexy, modern finish.
