What Does the Red Button on the Side of the Droid X Do?

Positioned on the bottom right side of the Motorola Droid X is an unmarked, red button that stands out from the uniform black color of the smartphone. Despite its awkward color, the button serves an important function for the smartphone's integrated camera, especially for users who crave a more traditional camera feel.

1 Using the Red Button

Holding down the red side button automatically launches the camera, regardless of what you're currently doing on the Droid X. Pressing it halfway down when the camera app is active will focus the current picture and pressing it the rest of the way down will take the picture. As an added bonus, the volume keys also function as a zoom when the camera app is active.
