It's a comforting feeling to know the letter you've sent -- whether it's a note of thanks to a family member or a job application -- has safely reached its destination. While you can call the recipient to inquire about the letter's arrival, doing so isn't always convenient or appropriate. Instead, change how you send the letter in order to track its postal movement and confirm delivery.

1 Traceable Options

Don't just place a stamp on your letter and then drop it into the mailbox. Instead, visit your local post office and pay a little more to send it via a method that offers a tracking service. Send the letter via registered mail so that you can then visit the United States Postal Service website, enter the letter's assigned bar-code number and view its delivery status. For extra security, request the recipient's signature to receive the letter. Alternatively, send your letter via first-class mail and certify it. Doing so, as with registered mail, enables you to know when the letter is delivered and signed by the recipient.
