Text messages and URLs aren't the only content you can send to your friends over Facebook chat. You also can upload pictures, videos and songs from your computer. As long as you are sharing a song that isn't copyright protected or is otherwise legal to share, such as a song you've composed yourself, you can attach the file to a Facebook chat message just as you would attach the song to an email.

Log in to Facebook and open a chat to the user with whom you wish to share the song.

Click "Options," which is styled as a gear icon, in the upper right corner of the Chat tab, and then select "Add Files" from the drop-down menu.

Select the song file you want to upload from the dialog box that pops up, and then click "Open."

Wait until the series of bars next to the song's name disappears, indicating that the song upload is complete.

Press the "Enter" key to complete the process and share the song with your friend.

  • Do not upload songs that you do not have the legal right to share. Copyright infringement can have serious consequences.
