How to Make Sure Your Notifications Show Up on Your Phone for Twitter

Mobile notifications help you to stay connected to the activity on your Twitter page, alerting you every time a noteworthy event such as a reply or mention occurs. Twitter's Apple iOS and Android smartphone clients allow you to set up notification banners that pop up automatically as you use your phone, even if you don't have the Twitter app open at that moment. Alternatively, you can configure Twitter to notify you through text. SMS notifications can be used with any phone that can send and receive text messages, making them ideal for non-smartphone users.

1 Through the iOS Twitter App

2 Tap the Twitter icon to open the Twitter app

Tap the “Twitter” icon to open the Twitter app, and then tap the “Me” tab.

3 Tap the cog icon

Tap the cog icon and select “Settings” from the pop-up menu.

4 Tap

Tap “Notifications” to open the notification options panel, and then use the toggle switches to select the events you want to be notified about. The app's settings will update automatically.

5 Press the Home button

Press the “Home” button to return to the iPhone's Home screen, and then tap “Settings.” Select “Notification” to bring up the iPhone's own notification settings menu.

6 Ensure that the Notification Center toggle

Tap “Twitter” and ensure that the Notification Center toggle is set to “On,” If it is not, the phone will block your Twitter notifications, irrespective of the settings selected in the Twitter app itself.

Confirm that your phone's Master Sync setting is turned on before setting up notifications. Consult your phone's documentation if you are unsure how to change this setting, as its location varies between Android versions and handset models.

9 To open the Twitter app

Tap the “Twitter” icon to open the Twitter app, and then tap the “Me” tab.

Tap the cog icon and select “Settings” from the pop-up menu.

11 Select the Twitter

Select the Twitter account you wish to configure. Tap the “Notifications” checkbox to ensure that notifications are turned on, then tap the “Notifications” text itself to open the setup menu.

Choose the events for which you want to receive notifications by tapping the applicable checkboxes. The app's settings will update automatically.

Sign in to the Twitter website, and then click on the cog icon. Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.

Click on the “Mobile” tab to bring up the Twitter for SMS options menu.

16 Use the checkboxes

Use the checkboxes to select the events you would like to be notified about. When you are finished, click the “Save Settings” button to confirm your changes.

  • Android phones must have a Google account configured for push notifications to work.
  • You must have a cell phone number configured to your Twitter account to use SMS notifications. If you do not, text “START” to 40404 and then follow the instructions in the reply message to set one up.
