Email, Facebook messages, Tweets and text messages each have their own alert tones and vibrations on the iPhone. You can customize the sound and vibration for each incoming message type in your iPhone's Settings application, including turning them off for those times when you don't want to hear alerts except for the one intended for incoming phone calls.

Tap "Settings," and then tap "Sounds."

Scroll down to the "Sounds and Vibration Patterns" section, which is a list of all the phone events that play a sound.

Tap "Text Tone" to open the list of sound options for when you receive a text message. The sound you have selected currently has a check mark next to it.

Scroll to the top of the list, and then tap "None."

Tap "Sounds" to return to the Sounds section, and repeat the process with each of the remaining phone events on the list, except for Ringtone.

Tap the phone event, tap "Vibration," scroll to the bottom of the list, and then tap "None."
