How to Customize a Kindle Fire HD Screen

The Carousel on your Kindle Fire displays items you've purchased from the Kindle Store or content you've recently viewed. Your Favorites, located below the Carousel, includes top picks from your content libraries. To customize your Home screen, you can add items to, or remove items from, your Carousel and Favorites, as well as hide recommendations and lock the orientation of your Kindle.

1 Add or Remove Items From the Carousel

2 Open an item

Open an item from the appropriate content library, or purchase an item from the Kindle Store, to add it to the Carousel.

3 Want to remove

Scroll to the app or file you want to remove from the Carousel, and then press and hold the item.

4 Remove from Carousel

Touch "Remove from Carousel" to delete the item from the Home screen, or touch "Remove from Device" to delete the item from the Kindle Fire.

5 Add or Remove Items From Your Favorites

6 Touch the star

Touch the star in the bottom right corner of the Home screen to view your Favorites.

7 Press

Press and hold the item you want to remove from your Favorites, and then touch "Remove from Favorites."

8 Locate the app or file

Locate the app or file you want to add to your Favorites from the appropriate content library.

9 Press and hold the item

Press and hold the item, and then select "Add to Favorites" from the context menu.

10 Set the Orientation

11 Rotate your Kindle Fire

Rotate your Kindle Fire to change the screen orientation to portrait or landscape, depending on your preferences.

12 Swipe down from the top of the screen

Swipe down from the top of the screen to display the notifications bar, and then press the icon in the top left to lock the orientation.

13 Repeat Step 2

Repeat Step 2 to unlock the screen and re-enable rotation, as needed.

  • To remove recommendations from the Home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen to display the notifications bar, and then touch "More | Applications | Amazon Home Recommendations | Hide."
