Signs That He's Attracted to You
If you've got a guy in your sights but aren't sure whether he is attracted to you, knowing the signs to look for can help you decide whether to make a move. Though you might expect a cheesy pick-up line or something equally obvious, most guys are subtle about their attraction. Pay attention to body language and whether he laughs at your jokes -- and you will soon know how he feels.
1 Laughing at Jokes
A guy who is attracted to you will likely laugh at your jokes or find your humor funny, suggests associate professor of psychology Norman Li, in the "Psychology Today" article, "Want to Know if Someone Likes You?" Humor is a way of gauging and showing romantic interest, asserts Li, so try to make him laugh and see what happens. If he comments that you are "so funny," or breaks out in laughter, chances are good that he is attracted to you.
2 Body Language
A guy will unknowingly give off many signals of attraction just through his body language, so pay attention. If he looks at you a lot, touches you on the arm, leans towards you or mirrors your movements, these are all good indicators of his feelings for you, according to couples counselor Elly Prior on her blog, Professional-Counselling.com. For example, if you are both sitting with your legs crossed the same way and arms folded in the same direction, that is a signal of harmony and interest, which happens without conscious thought. Check to see if he continues mirroring your movements when you change your posture, and you will know for sure.
3 Nervous Behaviors
It is normal to be nervous around someone you like -- so look to see if the guy displays any anxious behaviors, writes behavioral scientist and dating expert Christie Hartman, in the article, "Signs a Man Is Interested in You (Part 1)." If he keeps clearing his throat, stutters a bit, fidgets or blushes, these are all indications that he wants to make a good impression and feels nervous. Some guys will be better at hiding their nerves than others, so look for less obvious signs such as a guy talking more than he normally does. However, if you don't detect any nervousness at all, he could just be a cool cucumber or he may not see you in a romantic light.
4 Compliments
Sometimes guys take the direct route and express their interest with compliments. If a guy says something positive about your looks, that is usually a good sign that he wants to flirt, notes the Social Issues Research Centre's "Guide to Flirting." For example, a guy might say, "You look stunning in that dress," or "You have beautiful eyes." If he really wants to show his attraction, he might even lean in and give you a compliment on the scent of your hair or the fragrance you are wearing. All of these positive words are designed to let you know he is interested -- and trying to get more personal.
