When you purchase a new computer, you can load your iPhone’s information on the new computer by installing iTunes, authorizing the new computer with your Apple ID and then moving your existing content to iTunes. Sync the iPhone with the new computer to load your iPhone information to the newly authorized machine and transfer any data that has not yet synced. You can authorize up to five computers with one Apple ID. When you authorize your new computer, deauthorize the computer you intend to decommission.
Authorize New Computer
Open the iTunes download page in a browser on the new computer, then download and save the installation file.
Install iTunes on the new computer, then launch the application.
Click the “Store” option on the top menu bar, then click “Authorize This Computer.” The Apple ID prompt displays.
Type your Apple ID and password, then click the “Authorize” option. Make sure to use the same Apple ID you use on your iPhone. The new computer is authorized and a confirmation box appears, showing how many computers are authorized with the Apple ID.
Create Home Share
Open iTunes on the old computer. Make sure iTunes is running on the new computer.
Click “File,” then “Devices” to open the Devices menu on the old computer.
Click “Turn On Home Sharing.” The Apple ID prompt displays. Type your Apple ID and password, then click the “Create Home Share” button. Your old computer is now visible to the new computer as a share.
Click the “Store” option on the top menu bar in iTunes on the new computer, then click “Advanced.”
Click “Turn On Home Sharing.” The computer searches for the home share you created on the old computer. When the home share is found, the Home Share entry appears in the left panel.
Click the “Home Share” entry. The content from your old computer displays.
Click the “Edit” option, then click “Select All” to transfer all of your data, or click the check box for each data type to transfer. Click “Import.” Your old iTunes information is transferred to the new computer.
Connect the USB data cable to the iPhone, then plug the other end of the cable into a USB port on the new computer. ITunes automatically opens. If iTunes does not automatically start, open the application.
Click the “Device” option, then click the entry for your iPhone.
Click the “Apply” button to sync the iPhone with the new computer. Disconnect the iPhone once syncing has finished.
To transfer your playlists from the old computer to the new computer, click “File,” then “Library,” then “Export Library” in iTunes on the old machine. Copy the resulting XML file to the new computer. Click “File,” then “Library,” then “Import Playlist” on the new computer. Browse to and select the exported XML file.
To deauthorize the old computer, click the “Store” option in iTunes, then click “Deauthorize This Computer." Enter your Apple ID and confirm the operation.
