How to Write a Letter to Waive Standardized Tests

Many educational institutions use standardized test scores as evaluation criteria when reviewing admission applications. For instance, most graduate school committees require that potential students take the Graduate Record Examination, or GRE. For business-related graduate programs, the Graduate Management Admissions Test, or GMAT, is a common testing requirement. In the event that you are eligible to have standardized testing requirements waived, you can write a letter to the explain your situation.
Type the date and skip two lines or double space.
Type the name and full address of the recipient.
Type a greeting, such as "Dear Admissions Committee" two lines below the address. Insert a double space.
Describe the situation that qualifies you for the test waiver. For instance, "Based on your guideline stating that five or more years of work experience qualifies an individual for a GRE test waiver, I request ..." Double space.
Close the letter using a formal phrase, such as "Sincerely Yours."
Type your name four lines below your closing phrase. Sign your name above your typed name.
