There are two major consumer satellite networks that service North American subscribers, Dish Network and DirecTV. These providers offer both standard (SD) and high-definition (HD) channels. However, in the case of HD, and depending on the orientation of the local/regional "satellite window," there are only three satellite positions currently in use.

1 101 West

These satellites are flown and operated by DirecTV 9S and 4S oriented specifically to direct broadcast satellite (DBS), with a hybrid industrial/consumer satellite flown and operated by AMC-4. All satellites offer both SD and HD channels.

2 110 West

Echostar 11 is flown and operated by Dish Network, and DirecTV 5 is flown and operated by DirecTV. Both of these satellite transponders are specifically focused on DBS, including SD and HD channels.

3 119 West

Echostar 7 is flown and operated by Dish Network, and DirecTV 7S is flown and operated by DirecTV. Both of these satellite transponders are specifically focused on DBS, including SD and HD channels.
