Although inexpensive and easy to replace, USB flash drives are an efficient way to transfer files between locations. These drives, however, do not have a serial number etched on the device’s casing, making them harder to identify. For inventory and warranty purposes, you can access the unique serial numbers of these USB devices quickly from your computer.

1 Obtain the Serial Number

To find the serial number, insert the flash drive into your computer. Once recognized, display the properties of the USB device using the Device Manager within Windows. Under Properties is a Details tab with a drop-down menu. Select to display the serial number of your USB drive. Record this information and close all windows to return to the desktop.
