If you're trying to find someone, this paper trail can be invaluable. Even if you can only get a hold of one type of record, such as utility records, you may be able to track someone down through them.

Find all the information that you can about the person that you're looking for. A person's full name, birth date or social security number could all be parameters for you to check.

Find out which utility company the person uses. If you can find out where a person get utilities such as power, water, and gas from, you can contact that company and request that person's information. If you don't know which company the person you are looking for uses, then you can go by process of elimination in the general area he lives. This isn't a guaranteed way to gain access to utility records, and it will likely only work with public utilities.

Use a search engine that has access to utility records. Some of these services may charge a fee, so be sure you read the fine print. If you type in all the information you know about the person and conduct a search with that information as the search parameters, then these searches may turn up utility records with even more information, such as the person's current address.
