Kind Fire HD software updates provide users with the “Time to Read” feature. You can configure this feature to display the estimated reading time left in a chapter or book based on your reading speed. You cannot modify the time displayed in the "Time to Read" feature. The data is auto-generated using each book’s table of contents, along with the speed of your reading, to estimate your remaining reading time. However, you can change the display to show your location instead of reading time.

Open a book on the Kindle Fire HD.

Tap the “Time Left” option to display the field’s dialog box.

Tap “Time Left in Book” or “Location" to change the display to show the selected option. Tap “Time Left in Chapter” to return to the default setting.

  • If a book’s table of contents is not configured correctly, the "Time to Read" feature will display incorrectly estimated time or only your location. The dialog box may not open to allow you to change the setting.
  • If you experience repeated problems with the "Time to Read" feature with several books, update your Kindle Fire HD to the latest software. According to The eBook Reader.com, 8.3.0 and newer versions of the operating system fix issues with the feature.
