While meditation can potentially be done anywhere with the right surroundings and mindset, it is best to create a mediation chair to help focus yourself and set a boundary for your meditation time. When it comes to the hectic pace of life, family and jobs, keeping a deep inner calm can get you through anything. Luckily it is not hard to build a meditation chair to help you recharge and relax. With little supplies or skill needed, a simple meditation chair can be built in about two hours.
Set two of the 2x2-inch, 16-inch long boards down, spaced 12 inch apart. Lay the third board down in between the two. Apply wood glue to the top surface of the boards. Place the 16-inch plywood down over top of the boards. Nail through the plywood and into the 2x2 inch boards. Set the nails four inches apart.
Stand the 3x3 inch posts on their ends and set at the corners of one side of the square. Add wood glue anywhere the posts meet the chair frame. Nail into place. Sand the entire wood surface of the chair paying attention to corners and edges. Any potential splinters should be removed. Stain the chair or paint it as desired to give it a finished look.
Poke a large hole lengthwise (10 inches long) through the 4x4-inch foam rectangle. To do this, run a pointed stick through the center of the foam. Wrap your fabric around the rectangle and mark and sew a lengthwise seam line. Place the rectangle in the open-ended case. Tuck the ends of the fabric into the hole and glue with fabric glue. Allow the glue to dry.
Push the 10-inch-long board through the hole and secure the fabric if it has shifted. Glue the fabric to the board and let dry. Set the 10 inch long, 2x2 inch board centered at the top between the two posts. Nail into place to create a back support beam.
Create the seat of the chair by wrapping the fabric around the square foam. Mark and sew the appropriate seam lines, leaving one side open. Insert the foam into the case and stitch the seat closed. Set the seat cushion down on the chair.
