Hi, my name is Marija, and today I'm gonna give you some math terms for percentages. So a percent really can be written as a fraction before it's converted into a percentage, so any words that indicate fractions would also be able to indicate percent. Per is the first word that usually indicates percent, and usually we're talking about something per a hundred, or out of 100, so if you ever see out of 100 that means that we're also talking about specifically a percent. If you ever see the word ratio, which indicates a fraction, that also can be converted into a percent. So per, out of 100, ratio, piece, these are all words that mean a portion, and therefor can be written as or converted into a percent. For example, if I say to you that there are four students per five that pass this test, I can take this ratio four out of five and I can make it into a percent by first converting the fraction into one that has 100 as the denominator, so that would be 80 over 100, and then I can make it into 80 percent. So really any word that indicates fraction can be written as a fraction and then converted into a percent.
