Relational trust is the belief that you are safe with your partner and as a member of the relationship, writes marriage and family therapist Sheri Meyers on her "Huffington Post" blog. Whether you are building or rebuilding trust, some of the steps are the same when showing your guy that you are worthy of his trust.

1 Accept Responsibility

Take responsibility for your actions without excuses, suggests therapist Michael J. Salas on the Psych Central website. If you do something that makes your sweetheart doubt your trustworthiness, provide an explanation of your actions and listen to his response. Tell him you understand his concerns and validate his feelings. Ask him what you can do to make amends.

2 Keep Your Word

Don’t make promises you can’t or won’t keep. Your guy needs to know that you will do what you say you will do when you say you will do it. Be the person he can depend upon. It can be tempting to say what he wants to hear to make him happy in the moment, but he will not trust you if you don’t keep your word. Never lie -- even little white lies can hurt your relationship.

3 Keep His Confidence

If he shares something with you, especially if it is personal and emotional in nature, don’t betray him, advises Dr. Phil McGraw on Oprah.com. Especially avoid using the information to manipulate him. Teach him that he can tell you anything and it will stay safe with you. Additionally, don’t judge or condemn him. Instead, encourage him and let him know that you believe in him.

4 An Appreciative Atmosphere

Speak words of admiration, affection and appreciation daily. Don’t make up things to compliment him about. Be sincere and find things that you truly admire about him, such as how he aced a final or gave a smooth presentation in class. Say thanks when he does something for you so he knows you notice his actions. Little displays of affection such as holding his hand, smiling at him, a hug or kiss when you meet or leave each other’s company will help him feel secure in your relationship.

5 Make Love Your Guide

Ask yourself what the most loving response would be when you have a choice to make, suggests Meyers. Every time you act in a loving manner, he learns he can trust you to do the right thing. Be considerate of his feelings. If you act in a considerate manner, he will more likely treat you the same way.
