Etiquette on Addressing Envelopes With a Suite Number

The way you address your envelopes sets the tone for your letter. Following proper etiquette shows that you care. When a recipient's address has a suite number, things can get a bit more complicated. The correct way to write the envelope depends on how much space you have on the envelope.

1 Address Etiquette

The proper way to write an address is to spell all of the words out, using only three lines for the full address. Thus, an address with a suite number would look like this:

Ms. Alexandria Bright 54 Park Boulevard, Suite 501 Los Angeles, California 90001

However, if you have a small envelope and you can't fit the full delivery address on a single line, the United States Postal Service states that you should place the suite number on the line before the delivery address:

Ms. Alexandria Bright Suite 501 54 Park Boulevard Los Angeles, California 90001
