How to Learn Applied Math
Transcript
Hi, I'm Rachel, and today we're going to be going over how to learn applied math. So, in math we, you know, do a lot of formulas and a lot of equations, and we have to be able to learn how to apply this to real life situations that we can actually use what we're learning in the classroom in real life. An example of this is with shapes in geometry, different formulas like perimeter and area. So, let's look at that. If we have a rectangle, and say we want to put fencing up on this rectangle. Let's say it's like a yard, your back yard, you want to put a fence up. Well, then you can find the perimeter, and you can use your math and apply it to the situation. You know that the perimeter of a rectangle is two times the lengths plus two times the width. So, if your rectangle is 5, you know, yards by 7 yards, then the perimeter is going to be two times seven plus two times five. So that's 14 plus 10, which ends up being 24, and then you have to do the units, so that's 24 yards. And that's just one example out of many of how we can apply math to our lives. I'm Rachel and thank you for learning with me today.
