Word pyramids entail the breakdown of words, presenting them in pyramid form. They are often used to help students in memorizing vocabulary and spelling. They begin with the desired word's first letter and work their way down to the finished product. A word pyramid can be created in just a few steps.

Select a word to be used for the pyramid. Many people choose to use words that are otherwise difficult to memorize and spell. This helps to embed them into memory.

Write the first letter of the word at the top center of a piece of paper.

Write the first two letters of the word underneath the first letter. Center them so that the space between the two letters, lands directly underneath the letter at the top of the page. For example, if the word “GREEN” was used, the letters “G” and “R” would appear centered on the second line.

Write the first three letters underneath the two letters. Center them once again, so that the form continues to spread outward in the shape of a pyramid.

Continue adding one more letter of the word to each line until you have spelled the entire word on the bottom line. This serves as the base of the pyramid.
