Argumentative Ideas for On-Site College Daycare

On-campus daycare centers reduce the need to travel long distances to reach your child.

One of the most stressful parts of working and caring for children is the need to coordinate childcare logistics. This task becomes increasingly complicated when you have an irregular work or study schedule. On-site college daycare can provide many benefits for faculty, staff and students who enroll their kids in the centers. When working on a college campus, a parent should have peace of mind that you child is being cared for properly.

1 Close Proximity

One of the biggest benefits to having on-site college daycare is proximity. Close proximity for parents is particularly important in the event of an emergency. For example, a child may get sick. If a parent, whether they are a faculty member or a member of the student body, is on the same campus as their child, they are able to reach the child in a timely manner. However, if they must drive a significant distance from the child's daycare center (as it may not always be possible to find daycare near employment sites) this increases the amount of time needed to reach the child.

2 Accomodate Younger Faculty and Students

On-site daycare centers open up attendance and employment opportunities on campus for faculty and students with children. As older faculty members begin to retire, there is a need to hire more staff members. Those younger staff members with young children are more likely to accept teaching positions if they are able to sue on-site daycare. Likewise, students are more likely to attend the institution and focus on studies if they are able to attend classes near their child's daycare.

3 Accomodates Academic Schedules

Faculty and staff members may have irregular hours, unlike full-time employees at other institutions. An on-campus daycare center is more likely to accommodate these irregular hours than an off-campus daycare center. For example, an on-campus daycare center may have enough clientèle that it operates in the evening hours, when classes are held. At the same time, on-campus daycare centers may break for summer and winter break as well. Other daycare centers may not be as accommodating.

4 Costs Savings

Another important argument in favor of on-campus daycare centers is the potential cost savings that parents can realize. Parents would not be required to make extra trips to-and-from off-campus daycare centers, which saves gas. Additionally, off-campus daycare centers are more likely to charge flat fees than on-campus daycare centers. Off-campus centers may also require parents to pay to hold a spot over the summer, when a teaching parent may not be around.
