Ideas for a School Advertisement Project

Create an ad project that showcases what you've learned about advertising principles.

If you're looking for ideas for an unusual project for a course you're taking in advertising, start by considering your own passions. By creating an advertisement about something that you have an interest in, your natural enthusiasm will shine through. Once you've focused your advertisement on a particular item, it may be easier to think about other elements, such as the ad's format, medium, tone and intended audience.

1 Emulating Success

For an advertising project that demonstrates your ability both to analyze critically and to think creatively, focus on emulating the success of an ad that you think accomplishes its intention successfully. You might design an ad for the same type of product, drawing inspiration from the terms in which the successful ad makes its audience believe they will benefit from this profit. Alternately, you might appreciate a formal aspect of an advertisement, such as the way it uses language or composition appealingly. In this case, you might create an advertisement for a wholly different product. However you choose to pay tribute to your inspirational advertisement, provide a description of your process as part of the project. You can put this description in terms that an advertiser might use in explaining a campaign to a client company.

2 Bounds of Honesty

Create an advertising project that draws attention to the immense extent to which advertising can use language, images and ideas to determine its audience's perception. For your project, select a thing, a philosophy, a location, a person or a group that would usually be highly unappealing or even repugnant to the general population. For example, you might choose to create an advertisement for mildew. Use all of the methods of persuasion that you have studied to create a compelling and appealing advertising campaign for mildew, or whatever other subject you select. You cannot present any untrue or dishonest claims about your product.

3 Website Design

To bring your understanding of advertising into the 21st century, work the principles of advertising into a website design project. If you have the technological know-how, you can create a real site that uses text and image to present an appealing company. As an alternative, you can simply design the website on paper. Use separate pages to represent each of the web pages. You might also include a written text on the thinking behind the site's organization and design.

4 From the Ground Up

For a larger advertising project, invent an entirely new product and then set about marketing it, creating advertisements for various media outlets. For example, you might invent a device that helps curtains to glide more smoothly. For this product, you would have to create a brand name and an advertising campaign. If the product helps curtains close more gracefully and more quietly, you might benefit from designing television advertisements, so that consumers can see the device in operation.
