How to Find the Average of a Group Using Positives & Negatives

Transcript

Hi, I'm Racquel Ward, learning specialist. Today, I'm going to show you how to find the average of a group that has positive and negative numbers. The first step is to find the sum of the group so when you add the positive and negative numbers together, it gives you a total. Here, we have negative one, two, three, one, and negative two. Negative one and two is one. One and three is four. Four and one is five. And, five and negative two is three. Step two is to divide the sum by the amount of numbers that are in the group. Here, we have five numbers in the group. So, we're gonna divide the sum, three by the group number, five, giving us a total of three fifths.
