Wedding Cake Math Problems

Transcript

Hello, my name is Tiffany Overton. And I am the founding partner of Eldridge Overton Educational Programs. Today, I'm going to talk about a fun math activity that involves wedding cake. With this activity we're going to look at equivalent numbers including percents, decimals and fractions. First you need to explain what is a fraction. A fraction is a part of a whole. Next you need to explain what is a decimal. A decimal is a special way of writing a fraction. But it is written with a decimal point. And a percent is a number that represents out of 100. First lets start with 25 percent. What is the equivalent fraction? As you can see it is one fourth. And the equivalent decimal is zero point two five. I hope that you have found this idea useful. Again, my name is Tiffany Overton. I am the founding partner of Eldridge Overton Educational Programs. Thank you for watching.
