You may not think there are that many ways to compliment a girl on the way she looks. If you choose to get creative, however, you can go beyond the standard, "You look great!" and give her an uncommon compliment or one that is delivered in a different way. When a girl spends a lot of time on her appearance, such as for a date or prom, those are the perfect opportunities to deliver glowing praise about her looks.

1 Be Genuine

There is nothing wrong with offering a simple compliment such as, "You are beautiful," "You are cute" or "You are so pretty." Just be sure that your compliment is genuine and not exaggerated in any way, advises dating coach Nick Notas. For example, if you say "You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen," it calls into question your sincerity. Be sincere and offer a compliment that you really mean. If you wish to be more distinctive with your compliment, use words like "You look stunning" or "You are gorgeous," to make a lasting impact.

2 Be Specific

If you wish to be specific with your compliment, say something positive about a girl's hair, eyes, lips or scent, recommends Lovepanky.com. Praise about these attributes are personal -- but not too personal. Stay away from suggestive comments such as, "I like the way you look in that blouse." If in doubt, err on the side of being conservative with your compliments, particularly if you don't know a girl well. Examples of specific compliments include "I like how your hair shimmers in the light," "I love the way your eyes sparkle," "I adore your lips" and "I am entranced by that perfume you are wearing."

3 Send It in Writing

Compliments don't have to be offered in person to make an impact. Consider sending a girl a compliment by text or in a handwritten note, if you want to make more of an impact than just complimenting her in person. Consider turning your praise into a poem -- just be sure to be succinct and not ramble when you write, recommends Notas. If you do compliment by text, do it sparingly as well. Compliments that are delivered once in a while have more punch than those that come often.

4 Compliment With a Stare

Sometimes you can compliment without saying a word. If you find yourself genuinely smitten with a girl, you may not be able to stop yourself from staring. If you are out on a date, this nonverbal behavior is actually a compliment in itself; you are communicating that you can't take your eyes off of her, without actually uttering a word. Just be careful to keep your gaze at eye level and to avoid staring in situations where it could be seen as inappropriate -- such as in a lecture or at a meeting for the school newspaper.
