How Can I Connect My CCD Cameras to My Computer?

By Jason Taetsch

CCD security cameras record areas of your home or business to detect intruders and theft. You can connect the camera's output to your computer to save a copy of the footage to your hard drive, then share the video with others. Install a USB TV tuner adapter to transform the signal from the CCD camera to a format compatible with your computer's software.

Step 1

Insert the software CD that accompanied the USB adapter into the disc drive on your computer. Click the "Install Device Drivers" button in the wizard that appears to install the device drivers.

Step 2

Connect one end of the coaxial cable from the CCD camera to the RF jack on the side of the USB adapter.

Step 3

Plug the USB end of the adapter into an open USB port on your computer to connect the feed from the camera to your computer.

Step 4

Click "Start" and select "All Programs." Click "Windows Media Center" in the list that appears and select "TV" from the menu. Click "Live TV" to display the image from the camera on your monitor. Click "Record" to begin capturing the feed from the camera to your hard drive.
