After logging into your Instagram account, you'll notice that the videos in the feed begin to play automatically as you scroll past them. If your device's sound is on, the noise and visual motion can be bothersome or distracting. You can't prevent auto-play, but you can delay or mute it.
When Instagram first began to offer video, it included a setting for you to prevent video from automatically playing. In October of 2013, however, Instagram released a new update, which didn't include the option to stop the auto-play. Instead, you have two options: pre-loading video only when your device is connected to Wi-Fi and muting the videos with the volume button. By choosing to pre-load videos only when you're connected to Wi-Fi, you can delay the auto-playback slightly while you're using cellular data. Both options are available in the Settings section of the Instagram app.
