A simulation lab is a laboratory equipped with human models and audio and video computer programs. Simulations allow students to learn through performing live exercises rather than just reading and writing projects. Simulations are a superior method of learning as they develop creative thinking and give immediate feedback. Simulation labs are built both at medical schools and at medical establishments to train staff. Since simulation labs are very expensive to build, educational institutions or medical places need grants to fund them.
Grants Supported by NLN
The National League for Nursing (NLN) describes itself as "dedicated to excellence in nursing education." It promotes evidence-based teaching that educates students through practice. Its members include nursing teachers, health care agencies and educational establishments. NLN sponsors two grants: the NLN Nursing Education Research Grant, available to NLN members, and the Sigma Theta Tau International/NLN Grant, available for registered nurses with a master's or doctoral degree. The grants' purpose is to support advancement in nursing education. Both grants can be used to sponsor simulation labs.
Grants Supported by CIMIT
The Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) supports research projects for improving patient care in medical establishments such as hospitals or clinics. Grants sponsored by CIMIT are aimed at better educating medical staff on all levels. CIMIT sponsors two grants that can be used as part of the simulation lab funding: the CIMIT Innovation Grant and the Clinical Fast Forward Grant. The former supports research for improving patient care through educating staff using modern devices and procedures. The latter is designed to learn new clinical techniques. It cannot, however, be used to purchase capital equipment.
Grants Supported by NIH
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) supports scientists at various stages of their career as well as public or private and nonprofit or for-profit agencies. NIH offers many types of grants, such as research grants, program project grants and resource grants. Many of these grants sponsor educational projects such as simulation labs.
