If you use an embedded music player like Hypster or Grooveshark on your Tumblr blog, you can make the player widget invisible to your visitors and followers. However, when you make the player invisible, you must enable the Autoplay feature because your users will have no way to start, stop and otherwise control the music on your blog. Note that other players, like Streampad and the SCM Player, use a different strategy for delivering music to your visitors. These players must be visible in the browser in order for them to correctly function.
Log in to your Tumblr Dashboard, and then click the arrow next to the entry for your primary blog. A list of all your blogs opens.
Click the blog that hosts your music player to open the blog in the Dashboard.
Click the “Customize” option in the right side panel to open the theme for editing.
Locate the HTML code for your player widget. The code may be located in the Description field in the Customize menu, or it may be embedded directly in the theme HTML code. Click “Edit HTML” to open the HTML editor if the player code is not saved in the Description field, press “Ctrl-F” to open the Find box, and then type “hypster” in the Find field to quickly locate and highlight the Hypster URL in the player widget.
Change the “visibility:visible” command to “visibility:hidden”.
Change the “width” and “height” commands to “0px”. Note that there are multiple instances of the Width and Height commands in the widget. Check to ensure that all “border” values are set to zero.
Change the “autoplay=false” command to “autoplay=true”.
Click the “Update Preview” icon in the Customize menu to preview your changes from the HTML editor.
Click the “Save” icon to save and publish your changes.
- You can also simply regenerate, and then reinstall your widget to enable and disable player features.
- Make a copy of the player widget code before directly editing the HTML. If you are not happy with your changes, you can then revert back to the original code.
