Impressive Tumblr tricks aren't difficult to pull off when you learn a little HTML. If you've seen buttons, menus and textboxes on Tumblr pages, they're there because people added them as HTML elements. Two types of textboxes exist on Web pages. Regular textboxes consist of one row while larger textarea elements may contain multiple rows. Add either of these elements to your Tumblr blog by copying and pasting simple HTML tags into its Description box.
Log in to Tumblr and click the gear icon. Click the name of the blog you wish to update followed by "Customize."
Paste the code shown below into the Description box:
This is an HTML input tag that creates a regular textbox. Replace "My Input" with the text you want to appear in the textbox. The tag adds a blank line after the textbox.
Paste the following code below the code described in the previous step:
This code creates a textarea that's eight rows high and 20 columns wide. Replace "My Input" with the text you want people to see when they view the textarea. You can also change the values for rows and cols to other values if you'd like your text area to have different dimensions. Click "Save" to save your changes.
- The input tag has a size attribute with a value of 20. That value instructs browsers to make the textbox 20 characters wide. You can also change that value if you want a larger or smaller textbox.
- These examples demonstrate placing a regular textbox above a textarea. If you don't want one of those boxes to appear, delete its code from the Description box. You may prefer to use the textarea most of the time because you can give it more rows when you need to display lots of information.
