Graduation announcements allow you to inform friends and family you are receiving your degree from a college or university. Students can order graduation announcements from their school's book store, or custom-design their own through a private retailer. Announcements purchased through an institution often begin with common words such as, "The President, faculty and graduating class of..." then list the school name, the person who is graduating and the degree for which she is a candidate.
Select the wording for the opening of your announcement. You can use your school's official opening, or create your own. For example, you can begin with, "The family and friends of John. A. Smith are proud to invite you to attend his graduation ceremony," or "I am happy to announce that I, John Smith am receiving..." You can also begin with a short quote or poem before the invitation.
Write the degree major and minor concentration you are earning. For example, the invitation could be worded, "The President, faculty and graduating class of the University of Southern California announce that John A. Smith is a candidate for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Technology with a minor in Business Administration."
Write where and when the graduation ceremony is taking place. So you could write, "The graduation ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 15 2011 at 4:00 pm."
Send announcements at least a month before the ceremony to give recipients time to send congratulation notes and gifts.
An announcement is not an invitation. Since you likely have a limited number of tickets for your graduation ceremony, the announcement is intended to share your special day with friends and family who will not attend your ceremony.
