Once a person completes the General Educational Development test, that person will receive a certificate that is referred to by most as a GED. A GED can be very useful for an individual if she never earned a high school diploma. Currently, no states allow you to take a GED for credit, either at home or online. You can, however, take numerous different practice GED exams at home. These exams can be very useful for preparing you for the real GED test.
Visit the Steck-Vaughn GED Practice website (see Resources below). Once there, you will be able to take practice GED tests by category, such as "Language Arts," "Mathematics" and "Social Studies." Click on a link beneath the category, and the practice exam will begin on the next page. You can check the answer to each question in the exam by clicking the "Check my answer" tab at the bottom of every question.
Log onto the GED portion of 4Tests (see Resources below). Click the box located next to the different portions of the GED test you would like to complete. Once you've done this, click the "Begin Exam" tab, and your test will load on a different page. You can check the answer to each question by clicking the "View Answer" link located in the top right corner of the page.
Find numerous different practice GED tests on the Test Prep Review website (see Resources below). Scroll down the page, and you will find links to more than three dozen GED practice exams. Click on a link, and the exam questions will be listed on the very next page. You can either write out the answers on a piece of paper or print the exam out in order to complete it. An answer key to the exam will be found beneath the exam.
Complete practice exams for both portions of the GED Writing Test on the McGraw Hill Online Learning Center website (see Resources below). The first link will list 25 multiple choice questions dealing with several different aspects of the English language. After you complete this exam, click the "Submit Answers" tab to get the answers to the questions and learn how well you did. The second link will allow you to complete the written portion of the GED test. After you have finished writing your essay, click the "Submit Answers" tab at the bottom of the page. You will be able to read guidelines for the written exam. The website will also offer pointers and tips for improving your written essay.
- You can also ask your GED instructor for take-home practice exams. Just like the exams found on the websites listed above, a practice exam from your instructor will mimic the actual exam.
- Currently, no state allows an individual to complete an actual GED test either at home or online. Any websites claiming to allow you to take a "real" GED test for credit online are making a false claim. All GED tests must be completed at a certified GED testing center.
