Polls, surveys, quizzes and ratings are valuable methods of gaining feedback from visitors to your Tumblr blog. It is also more convenient for your visitors to select the answers than to have to write the information in a comment. Polldaddy offers a service where you can customize and embed these information-gathering tools on your blog. The service automatically generates the embed code that you can then add to your blog. By default, Tumblr strips out JavaScript code from posts when using the regular editor, so to embed Polldaddy content, you have to use the plain text/HTML editor.

Step 1

Open the Polldaddy website (link in Resources) and sign in to your account. Click "Sign up for a free account now" if you don't have an account already.

Step 2

Click the "Dashboard" tab, click the "Create a new" button and then select whether you want to embed a survey, poll, quiz or rating on your Tumblr blog.

Step 3

Adjust the default templates to customize the content for your blog. For example, when creating a poll, type the poll question and the options that visitors have to choose from as answers.

Step 4

Click the "Create" button and select a style from the list of presets. The preview window displays how the poll will appear on your blog.

Step 5

Click "Save Style Settings" and click the "JavaScript" tab to display the embed code.

Step 6

Click the embed code box to highlight the code and then press "Ctrl-C" to copy the contents to the clipboard.

Step 7

Open a new tab and sign in to your Tumblr account.

Step 8

Click the gear-shaped Preferences button and select "Dashboard" from the right column.

Step 9

Select "Plain Text/HTML" from the "Text Editor" drop-down list and then click the "Home" button to return to the Tumblr dashboard.

Step 10

Select "Text" from the new post list and type in a title for the post.

Step 11

Click the body of the post and press "Ctrl-V" to paste in the Polldaddy embed code.

Step 12

Click the "Post" button to post the Polldaddy content into your Tumblr blog.
