Choosing a real estate school requires more than thumbing through the yellow pages. The school needs to fit the budget, educational needs and future plans of the agent.

Check out the total cost of the school. The cost of a real estate education is not simply limited to the tuition of the school. The overall cost will include the cost of supplies, the cost of housing and the cost of living in the city where the school is located. If the room and board will make the school out of the budget, another school will need to be considered.

Establishing educational needs. Is the school accredited? Are there references for the school? When a student wants to choose a real estate school, it is important to research the school from all angles. Great schools can have horrible graduation rates and cheaper schools can have better employment rates. These will matter hugely when choosing the school that will offer the best overall value.

Extending education. After the first few years of general real estate education, the student may decide to study a specific type of real estate. While residential real estate is more general, business or commercial real estate is more focused. If the school does not offer a specific line of classes for specialized training, the real estate student may need to change schools. Changing schools could be a huge hassle, especially if credits need to be transferred and moving costs figured into the equation
