Love them or hate them, sometimes you just have to take a selfie and post it to your Tumblr blog. Maybe it's because there's no reaction GIF in the world that could hold a candle to the actual expression on your face, or maybe you just want to show off your new outfit or that prize you just won -- it doesn't matter. If you have a webcam, you can snap a picture of yourself right from within Tumblr's post editor; if you're using Chrome or Firefox as your browser, you can also record a short animated GIF. What you can't do, at least as of December 2013, is record video.

Step 1

Open the Tumblr dashboard and click "Photo" to create a new photo post.

Step 2

Click "Take a Photo." When prompted, allow Tumblr to access your webcam. Exactly what the prompt looks like, and what button you need to click, depends on the browser you're using. If you're using Chrome, Internet Explorer or Opera, the button is labeled "Allow;" if you're using Firefox, the button is labeled "Share Selected Device."

Step 3

Click the camera button to snap a static photo. You have about four seconds to pose; after that time has elapsed, the screen flashes white and the photo appears in the post. Alternatively, click the "GIF" button to capture an animated GIF. When you do this, Tumblr captures one image per second for four seconds, for a total of four images, and combines them into a single, looping animated GIF.
