You’ve been using hair brushes all your life, so you have plenty of practice getting tangle-free tresses, but frizzy and lifeless locks still plague you from time to time. If a smooth and sleek 'do is what you seek, a round brush can save the day -- but its magic doesn’t happen just by putting it into your hand. Learn how to work this styling tool to your advantage, and you'll be well on your way to the coif you crave.

Step 1

Wash your hair with shampoo and rinse clean with water. Towel dry your hair until it's damp but not dripping wet.

Step 2

Comb through your hair gently to remove all knots and tangles. Round brushes are notorious for getting stuck in hair, so start with smooth strands to lessen the chances.

Step 3

Gather up a 1/2- to 1-inch wide strip of hair from the top of your head. Place the round brush underneath it so it touches your scalp.

Step 4

Set a hair dryer to low heat and turn it on. Hold the dryer 6 inches away from your head and aim the air flow at the area of the brush. Roll the brush towards your scalp as you continue to dry it with the hair dryer.

Step 5

Switch the hair dryer to the cool blast setting and aim the air at the brush for 10 seconds. This cold blast of air will cool the hair and set the style.

Step 6

Switch the hair dryer back to low heat and dry the lower section of the hair strand. For a straight look, pull the round brush through, creating tension on the hair. For a wavy look, wrap the hair around the barrel like you would a curling iron. Aim the heat at the hair until dry.

Step 7

Flip the dry section of hair over your head and pick up a new 1/2- to 1-inch section from underneath it. Dry this section using the same process used with the first section. Continue until all of your hair is dry and styled.
