A high Google search rank for your Tumblr blog is an excellent promotional tool, helping you to draw in new readers by increasing your page's visibility. However, Google must be able to index your blog in order to add it to search listings. Search engines such as Google use programs called “spiders” to scan the Web and index new pages. Although most pages are indexable by default, services such as Tumblr can block search spiders, preventing Google from learning about your blog. The index status of a Tumblr blog can be controlled from the Tumblr software's settings panel.
Open the Tumblr webpage in your browser. Enter your email address and password into the relevant boxes, and then click “Log In” to sign in to Tumblr.
Click on the “Gear” icon and then select the name of your blog from the sidebar panel to open up your blog's settings menu.
Scroll down the page to the Directory section of the menu and check the “Allow Search Engines To Index Your Blog” box. Click “Save” to confirm your changes.
- Google uses a complex algorithm to rank search results, with many different factors affecting the a given page's rank. As a rule of thumb, you can increase your page's search ranking by posting regular updates and encouraging your readers to share your content on social media.
- Your blog will not appear on page listings until it has been indexed by Google's spiders. This process can take up to a few days.
