Marketing majors learn how to communicate the value of a product or service in order to promote its sale. Because marketing is a vital part of business, many prospective marketing majors find it challenging to choose an undergraduate marketing degree program. While countless schools offer a Bachelor’s in marketing, there are some programs that stand out as the top universities for an undergraduate marketing degree.
University of Michigan
The marketing program at the University of Michigan was ranked the second best marketing program in the U.S. by “US News & World Report,” and was among the top 10 undergraduate schools for marketing according to “Bloomberg Business Week.” Students who attend the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business are exposed to real-life case studies that allow them to explore marketing through practical application. The school offers concentrations in both traditional and digital marketing as well as marketing research opportunities and many organizations and clubs.
University of Pennsylvania
The Wharton Marketing Program at the University of Pennsylvania (commonly called UPenn) is ranked as one of the top marketing programs in the nation. The members of the marketing faculty at UPenn have more combined published works than any other marketing faculty in the world. UPenn is also home to the Wroe Alderson Distinguished Lecturer Series, which is an annual presentation that invites top researchers to present new insights and perspectives on the practice of marketing. Students also have access to research centers, programs and a behavioral lab focused on business-related topics.
University of Virginia
Both “US News & World Report” and “Bloomberg Business Week” rank the University of Virginia among the top ten marketing programs in the country in 2013. The marketing program is housed within the McIntire School of Commerce, and undergraduate candidates must complete two years of undergraduate study before applying for admission to the elite program. Accepted students will work on an integrated curriculum that incorporates real-world projects provided by corporate sponsors. There are also many campus organizations and study abroad options available.
The College of William & Mary
The College of William & Mary’s Mason School of Business was ranked the best marketing program in the country by “Bloomberg Business Week” in 2013. The basic program incorporates courses in critical thinking, advertising strategies, decision theory and marketing in a digital world. The school also offers what is called an Individual Program of Study (IPS), which allows students to design academic programs that appeal to them. Coursework is designed to allow for a semester abroad, and the school assists students with finding internships, career planning and graduate school applications.
