Texas A&M University designed its online graduate degree programs for undergraduate degree holders who wish to boost professional skills or improve their employment opportunities. Programs include options for degree and non-degree seeking students and classes for those who wish to earn professional certificates. Classes are delivered via the Internet or via the university's video conferencing network. Some programs include classes taught in traditional classrooms on campuses away from Texas A&M's main campus in College Station, Texas.
The Application Process
People seeking acceptance into A&M's online graduate program must first apply for admission using the online "Apply Texas" application. Applicants must also submit recommendation letters, official transcripts, resume, GRE scores and a $50 non-refundable application fee. Students may be admitted as graduate students, post-baccalaureate or non-degree seeking students. New students are encouraged to apply as non-degree seekers because the applications are processed faster. After the first semester of study, students may apply their credits toward a degree.
Master's Degree Programs
Texas A&M offers a variety of master's degree options through the colleges of agriculture and life science, education and human development, engineering and science. The list of degree plans are exhaustive and address disciplines such as counseling, bilingual education and education technology. Master of Science options include agricultural systems management, mathematics or statistics. A Master of Engineering is available in industrial, petroleum, biological and agricultural engineering.
Texas A&M's online program currently offers three doctoral degrees: two in its college of agriculture and life science and one in the school of education and human development. The doctorate degrees in curriculum instruction and agriculture are cohorts into which students may enter at prescribed times. The doctorate in agricultural education is also a cohort program offered jointly with Texas Tech University. Doctoral students in the plant breeding program work with on-campus personnel.
Earning a graduate certificate through Texas A&M will help individuals improve professional skills. The George Bush School of Government offers certificates in advanced international affairs, homeland security, non profit management and national security affairs. The department of agricultural leadership and educational communications offers a certificate in agricultural e-learning. Individuals can earn certificates in statistics through the statistics department. The department of soil and crop sciences offers a certificate in regulatory science and food systems.
