Chunky-heeled sandals are an ideal choice if you're looking to "ground" an outfit. Earthy and chic, they add balance to ultra-feminine outfits and can stand up to bold statement pieces. They also work well paired with laid-back weekend clothing for an air of hippie glam.

1 A Softer Side

Use chunky brown sandals to balance a soft, classically feminine silhouette. Try a flared or A-line skirt, topped with a crisp blazer and camisole; the chunky sandals add a nice contrast to a flouncy skirt. Brown sandals add earthy flair to soft pastels like baby blue, pale pinks and soft yellows.

2 Bold and Beautiful

Pair chunky brown sandals with bold shapes and bright hues. The neutrality of brown balances bright hues and works well with all colors, from lemon yellow to electric tangerine. Brown also makes it easier to mix two or three bold shades in the same outfit. Chunky heels work especially well with flared or wide-leg pants for a 70s look. Try topping chunky sandals and wide-leg pants with a fitted tank and cropped cardigan.

3 Cool and Casual

Chunky-heeled sandals not only add ease to dressy outfits, but bring just enough structure to casual clothing, like shorts or denim. They give a subtly sexy boost to jeans and a tee; try a neutral-colored top, like beige, gray or white, to avoid overpowering brown sandals. Finish the look with colorful, earthy bangles or feather earrings to channel your inner flower child.
