The Fahrenheit scale is a measure of temperature that was created in the 1700s by physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. Only a few countries in the world use the Fahrenheit scale to talk about temperature. The largest country that uses the Fahrenheit scale is the United States. Other places that use the Fahrenheit scale include the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Liberia and Belize. Everywhere else in the world uses the Celsius scale.

If you’re writing about the weather or taking a chemistry class that requires precise measurements of temperature, you will probably have to use the Celsius scale. Even if you are using the Fahrenheit scale, the more you write about it, the more you will realize that you need to know how to type a degree symbol without having to Google it every time. That means you will need to learn how to type the Fahrenheit symbol using a keyboard.

1 How to Make the Fahrenheit on a Keyboard

To make a Fahrenheit symbol on a PC, place your cursor in the spot where you would like to make the symbol appear. Next, press and hold the “Alt” key. Then, type the numbers “248” using the numeric keypad on your keyboard. When you release the “Alt” key, the degree symbol will appear where your cursor is located. To make this a Fahrenheit symbol, press the “Shift” key and then the "F" key, creating an "F" in the place of your cursor. Now you have a Fahrenheit symbol.

To make a Fahrenheit on a keyboard for a Mac, press the “Shift” key, the “Option” key and the number "8" key together. This key combination will create a degree symbol. Adding an uppercase "F" after the degree symbol will make it a Fahrenheit symbol.

2 How to Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit

The formula to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit looks like this:

F = 1.8C + 32

To work out the equation, replace C with the number you have in degrees Celsius.

3 Practice: Convert 220 Celsius to Fahrenheit

To convert 220 Celsius to Fahrenheit, replace the C in the formula with the number 220.

F = 1.8 (220) + 32

Multiply 1.8 by 220.

1.8 x 220 = 396

Add 32 to that number.

F = 396 + 32

F = 428

Converting 220 Celsius to Fahrenheit gives you 428°F. That’s hot!

4 Another Formula to Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit

Another equation that can be used to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit looks like this:

F = 9/5 C + 32

This formula will give you the same answer, but it might be easier to remember because of the fraction.
