Besides storing online files for your personal use, Dropbox also assigns URLs to each file and folder you maintain. The URL address enables you to share it in various locations, such as Tumblr, so you can conveniently distribute your files to other people. After you obtain the URL, you can use the Link option to publish it in an individual Tumblr post, or you can promote it in your blog's About section to prominently display it on every page of your site.
Launch the Dropbox desktop application, or log in to your Dropbox website account (link in Resources).
Right-click the desired file or folder to launch the contextual menu.
Click "Share Dropbox Link" in the application to automatically copy the URL. If using the Dropbox website, click "Share Link," click "Get Link" and then copy the URL that displays.
Tumblr Link Post
Log in to your Tumblr account, and click the "Link" option on the dashboard.
Type the Dropbox URL in the designated field. Optionally, enter additional information, such as a title or caption, that describes the file or folder you're sharing.
Click the "Post" button to finish publishing your Dropbox URL.
Tumblr About Section
Click the "Customize" link on your Tumblr dashboard.
Enter the following code in the Description box:
<a href="Dropbox URL address">File or Folder Name</a>
Be sure to replace "Dropbox URL address" and "File or Folder Name" with your own information.
View your link in the preview that automatically displays. When ready, click the "Save" button.
- If you share a video URL, the recipient can watch up to 15 minutes of it on the Dropbox preview page. Longer movies require that the recipient download the file or use the Dropbox mobile app (link in Resources).
