Paramedical estheticians, often called medical estheticians, are cosmetology professionals who provide advanced skin care services. They work in spas, salons or medical offices, depending on the services they offer. Aspiring medical estheticians should attend trade or technical schools that offer cosmetology programs with advanced training in esthetics. Such programs typically range from two semesters to two years. The Tennessee Board of Cosmetology requires all estheticians to complete at least 750 hours of coursework and practice to take the state licensing exam.
