Requirements for Continuing Education in Ohio

Each state has its own continuing-education requirements for registered nurses. In Ohio, nurses must complete 24 hours of continuing education during each two-year licensure period. One hour must be related to the nursing code and rules as stated in Chapter 4723 of the Ohio revised code, which spells out the laws related to the nursing profession in Ohio. Continuing-education courses must be approved by the state nursing board in order to qualify. The law states the board must offer coursework in how to recognize domestic violence and its effect on children, but nurses are not required to take these courses.
