You finally saved up enough to get your hair professionally styled into perfect, luxurious curls -- then you remember that you have to go to bed later that night. Just the thought of smashing your curls into destruction atop your soft pillow is enough to make you tremble. There's no need to fear that nighttime destruction. A couple smart techniques will work to preserve -- and even enhance -- your curls for a perfect second-day hairstyle worthy of the red carpet.

Apply a quarter-sized amount of light-hold styling mousse to your palm. Spread the product through your locks evenly with your fingers.

Separate a 1-inch-wide section of hair at the top of your head. Roll the section of hair up into a tidy pin curl, starting at the ends and working your way towards your scalp.

Lay the pin curl flat on your head and pin into place with one or two bobby pins.

Repeat the pin-curling process on the rest of your hair, working from the top of your head down to the bottom layers of hair. Work with the direction of the established curls as you roll and pin.

Wrap your head in a soft scarf to protect the pin curls while you sleep.

Remove the scarf in the morning. Gently unpin each pin curl and unroll with your fingers individually.

Comb through any tangled or uneven areas with a wide-tooth comb, using gentle strokes. Tousle your hair with your fingers at the roots to add some natural volume.

Spritz with a light-hold hairspray to finish up the look.

  • Keep the application of styling products light so that you don't weigh down the curls.
