In order to purchase content such as music, movies and television shows from the Apple iTunes store, you need to have an Apple ID. Your Apple ID also enables you to manage the apps and content on your iOS devices via iTunes. If you forget your Apple ID passcode for iTunes purchases, you need to generate a new one. There is no way to recover your old password from Apple if you forget it.

Password Management Using a Web Browser

Step 1

Navigate to the Apple ID password reset Web page. Apple offers several options for resetting your password.

Step 2

Enter your Apple ID in the appropriate field and click the "Next" button. Your Apple ID is generally your email address.

Step 3

Select one of the authentication methods that appears on the next page. You can reset your password by having an email sent to you or by answering a few security questions that you created when you set up your Apple ID.

Step 4

Click on the email link in the message your receive from Apple if you chose email authentication. The link leads to a page on the Apple website where you can enter a new password. The link expires after three hours. If you remember your password, you can let the link expire.

Step 5

Answer the security questions that appear on the Web page if you chose the security questions option instead of email authentication. When you answer the questions you will be able to enter and save a new password.

Password Management For Users With Two-Step Verification

Step 1

Navigate to the Apple ID password reset Web page. Enter your Apple ID in the appropriate field and click the "Next" button.

Step 2

Type your two-step verification recovery key in the appropriate field. You receive a recovery key when you set up two-step verification. Click "Continue." You will now receive a verification code on your mobile device.

Step 3

Enter the verification code that you receive as a text on your mobile device. Click "Continue." Type your old password and new password in the appropriate fields. Click "Save."

From Within iTunes

Step 1

Open iTunes. Click the "iTunes Store" menu item in the "Store" section.

Step 2

Click "Sign In" You will see fields to enter your Apple ID and password. Click the "Forgot?" link. Your default browser will open to the Apple ID password reset Web page.

Step 3

Enter your Apple ID in the appropriate field and click the "Next" button. Follow the instructions on the page to reset your password. You can chose email verification or answer a few security questions before resetting your password.
