Determining the best nursing schools in British Columbia can be a difficult task. Unlike in the United States, where publications like "U.S. News & World Report" serve as an easy reference, no such publications exist in Canada. According to Schools in Canada's website, one of the ways to determine which schools are best for nursing is to refer to a publication like "MacLean's." Using "MacLean's" ranking tool and several different rankings lists established by the publication, it is possible to determine which schools are among the best.

University of British Columbia

Based on such factors as a low student-to-faculty ratio, overall ranking in medical and research grants, total research dollars per faculty member, scholarship money and reputation, the University of British Columbia (UBC) ranks the highest among universities in British Columbia. The "MacLean's" ranking of medical and doctoral programs corroborates the high ranking, indicating strong medical research at the university.

The UBC School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) at the undergraduate level. Students must complete prerequisite courses in English and human anatomy and physiology to be admitted to the program. An interview is also required as part of the admission process. The school also offers the Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) as a general track and with a specialization to become a nurse practitioner. UBC also offers a Ph.D. in the field. Courses of study include Advanced Methods in Qualitative Fieldwork and the Philosophy of Evidence.
