The SAT is a college entrance exam that tests your knowledge and understanding in reading, writing and math. Each of the three SAT test sections has a scoring range of 200 to 800. Colleges use your SAT scores as just part of the admissions process and it’s not the sole deciding factor for acceptance.

Average Testing Results

According to the College Board’s 2012 testing statistics, the average SAT math score is 514. Although a score of 400 is below this average mark, it’s not a terrible score -- it still falls in the middle of the scoring range. If you’re unhappy with your math score, you can retake the exam and hopefully raise your math section results.
