Luau Themed Vacation Bible School Ideas

A luau is a popular theme for Vacation Bible Schools. The warm summer weather just begs for flip-flops and swimsuits, and luau activities seem to be perfect. In addition to a family luau kickoff for the congregation, you can bring a bit of the tropical into every day of your VBS, regardless of what curriculum you're using.

1 Hawaiian T-shirts

Have your staff start collecting vibrant Hawaiian-style button shirts to wear during VBS week. Collect a few at thrift shops or yard sales in case someone shows up "too cool" to play along.

2 Snack Bungalow

Decorate the shaded snack area with a thatched roof so it looks more like an island "palapa." Serve juices with little umbrellas and make colorful sno-cones; order faux palm trees. The Oriental Trading Company sells more luau decorating supplies than any other vendor.

3 Make a Totem Pole

You can have kids paint faces on recycled boxes and stack them together into a tropical totem pole. Your totem poles will last a long time if you use hot glue to stick them together.
